PEAK PERFORMANCE IN SPORT

It’s commonly said that sports are 90 percent mental and only 10 percent physical. A lack of focus can result in a missed three-point shot, nerves can cause a footballer to drop an easy mark, and a momentary lapse in confidence can result in poor performance.  To compete at an elite level, professional athletes in sports are seeking mental strategies to assist them to perform at their peak.  To perform at our peak, we need to either control our mind to experience an absence of thoughts “being in the zone” or have beliefs about ourselves or our abilities that support us.

TECHNIQUES USED
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)/Tapping

EFT is a relatively new technique that is being used by athletes in America (baseball, NFL and golf).  It is commonly termed ‘acupuncture without needles’ and assists with removing any emotional or mental obstacles that block you from being your best in your chosen sport.  You can read more about EFT under Modalities.
Psych-K
A technique that changes our limited subconscious beliefs that can prevent us from maximising our potential.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness is commonly practised in the AFL and NBA for a mental edge over their competitors.  Mindfulness will teach you to stay fully present to what you are doing.  Often thoughts can focus on mistakes we’ve made in the past or possible mistakes we might make in the future, both taking us out of the present moment and having a negative effect on performance.  Mindfulness teaches us to control our mind rather than allowing it to control us.
